Volunteering at West Chester Medical Center

To get an application . . .
(Our Teen Volunteer Program
begins Summer of 2010, but
you still can fill out an application.)
It is our goal at West Chester Medical Center for every visitor to find that we exceed expectations in all areas, and that includes our volunteer staff. We are a non-profit hospital, so we welcome individuals in our community who would like to assist our staff and patients by becoming a part of our team.
Our volunteers are among the friendliest, most knowledgeable and compassionate people in our community. They make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families.
Opportunities for volunteers are available in the areas of:
- Hospitality – Hospitality volunteers work mainly in areas with the public. These may include information desk, greeter, event ambassador, gift shop and tour guides. We look for people who are warm, sociable, cordial, gracious, friendly, courteous, kind and neighborly to fill these positions.
- Patient and Family Services – These volunteers have direct interaction with hospital patients and/or their families. These volunteers may deliver patient mail and flowers, or work in social work, the emergency department, chaplain services, or imaging services. These volunteers need to exhibit sensitivity to persons who may be troubled or stressed, who are facing serious family issues, and who need to be treated with gentle compassion. These volunteers are trained to be as helpful as possible, without imposing their own values or biases on others. They understand what it means to be a patient or family of a patient and help promote a “glad to help you” culture.
- Technology and Data – These volunteers will assist administrative staff in a variety of ways. They may work in the development, volunteer services, quality, or marketing departments helping with data input, reports, grant research, or communication. Communication may consist of sending emails or text messages to various work groups, or maintaining mailing lists and sending mailers. These volunteers should enjoy seeing tangible projects from beginning to completion and have experience with current technology.
Volunteers will go through an application and interview process to determine where their skills are best needed. Volunteers attend orientation and training, and become an important part of that department’s team.
We accept teen volunteers ages 14-18 and adult volunteers ages 18 and up.
